Conrad enjoys classics and contemporary classics alike such as George Crane’s “Bones of the Master", Freya Stark's "Valleys of the Assassins" and “Shantaram” by Gregory Roberts, along with the poetry of Rumi and Kabir. He was born in Iowa City, Iowa where he learned to swim at the age of 1. The first son of Conrad R Kohrs Sr. and Mary Linda Graham Conrad was named after his great uncle, Montana cattle rancher and close friend to Teddy Roosevelt. Conrad Sr. was a renowned trial lawyer in Los Angeles. His mother presented him with his first surfboard at the age of 12 and he has since traveled and written short stories, surfed, and immersed himself in various cultures. He introduced his sister, acclaimed teacher, writer, and originator of Yin Yoga, Sarah Powers, to Yoga in 1982 and is practiced in Taoist Philosophy, Buddhist traditions of Indonesia, and Yin Yoga. He has written outdoor and Swimming Sport articles for magazines in Micronesia, Hawaii, and California. Conrad has enjoyed an illustrious Swim Coaching career which includes coaching at the club, high school, college, and international levels. He recently taught high school English, and a course called Water Conservation and the Human Psyche through Colby-Sawyer College in New Hampshire. He graduated from Kenyon College, and attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa and New England College for his M.F.A. He is divorced and currently resides on the island of Mauritius.
